When I was a kid, my buddy Nate was a little obsessed with the number 23. He called it his favorite number, and would point it out every time it appeared. I’ve since learned that 23 has significance in some occult and mystical literary works; in these works, 23 is considered lucky, unlucky, sinister, strange, sacred to the goddess Eris, or sacred to the unholy gods of the Cthulhu Mythos. This confluence of ideas, sometimes called the “23 Enigma” came to mind as I noticed that tomorrow is May 23rd.
